She graduated from Peever High School. Bereft of mother at age 5, orphaned by 15, her life took a happy turn when she married Alvin Sylvester Tuff June 12, 1948, at Webster. Along with Alvin, she raised three children and owned and operated Tuff's Service Station. Lorraine was often described as being one of a kind. She was known for her outgoing personality and startling frankness. Life was never dull when she was around. She was quick to help, send a card and visit people in the hospital and nursing home. She loved her many friends and family, playing cards and board games, reading, keeping a diary, dancing, swimming and having her family around.
She is survived by her children, June (Dan) Witte, Sioux Falls, Donald (Mary) Tuff, Watertown and Kathy (Brian) O'Connor, Rapid City; her grandchildren, Landon (Erica) Tuff, Chase and Evan Cutler, Jerad (Michelle) Tuff, Michelle and Katie Tuff, Jackie (Tej) Singh and Lindsey Dumire; her great-grandchildren, Maddie Horn, Shah and Raj Singh; her sister-in-law, Thelma Nielsen of Sisseton; her cousins, many nieces and nephews and friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Carol, her husband and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Clarice (Dallas) DeLay and Elaine (Leonard) Langager.
